Are you making this herbal mistake when it comes to PCOS?

There’s lots of advice on herbs out there for women with PCOS…

Use Spearmint! No, Cinnamon! Pumpkin seeds and Flax! Turmeric for inflammation, Ashwagandha for stress! Saw Palmetto for hair loss and Vitex for hormones!

Herbs are powerful. Approximately 80% of all pharmaceutical drugs come from plant origins. Eleven percent of the drugs considered ‘essential medicines’ by the World Health Organization come from flowering plants alone!

But do they really work? Do you need to take all of them? What about once you’re pregnant?

They’re natural and safe, right?

You might think to yourself, ‘just try it and see what happens.’

But how long should you wait to see the results? A week? A month? A year?

What if you’re wasting time going down the wrong path? What if you’re setting yourself up for months of more negative pregnancy tests? Or worse yet, what if they’re actually causing harm?

It’s frustrating when you’re motivated and ready to commit to your health and to starting your family, but you don’t have anyone to ask which herbs are right for you. So you do your best and hope it helps.

A very common mistake I see women making with PCOS is taking the wrong herbs!

If they’re powerful enough to be considered ‘essential medicines’ then it’s critical to be properly informed.

I have a patient I’m working with now who was taking the herbs her mother suggested. I’m 100% certain that her mother has good intentions. After all, she wants to be a grandmother as much as my patient wants to be a mom.

The problem is, she’s not a trained herbalist and she had it all backwards.

Many of the herbs she was taking were actually estrogenic, like Red Raspberry Leaf and Dong Quai. Estrogen is good for women, right?

Not so fast.

If you have multiple cysts in your ovaries, they could all be producing estrogen, and estrogen dominance could be a major factor in why you’re not ovulating or getting pregnant. Adding more estrogen to the problem is like fighting fire with fire.

It was only after she quit those herbs and switched her strategy completely that her periods became regular and predictable.

Herbs are powerful and they definitely can help you boost your fertility and start your family.

But you need to know which ones are right for you. Sometimes you really need expert guidance tailored to your unique situation. With nearly 17 years of clinical practice, I‘ve seen the impact they can make.

Don’t let another month go by unintentionally delaying the beautiful family you want. Let’s uncover any hidden mistakes you may be making.
